Key takeaways
- You don’t need to get in shape before joining a gym. That’s what the gym is for.
- Every experienced exerciser had a first, nervous workout.
- An individualized program means you never have to keep up with anyone.
- The first wins are small: showing up, sleeping better, climbing stairs more easily.
- Confidence comes after action, not before.
“I’d love to start working out… but I’m so out of shape.” It’s one of the most common things we hear before someone’s first consultation. Maybe you’ve gained weight over the last several years, your energy isn’t what it used to be, or a flight of stairs leaves you winded. Maybe it’s simply been so long that you don’t know where to begin. If that’s you, here’s the good news: you are not behind. You’re ready to begin. And you’re exactly who we built CT Workout for.
The biggest myth in fitness
You don’t need to earn the right to start. You just need to start.
Everyone starts somewhere
It’s easy to compare yourself to people who’ve exercised for years. What you don’t see is that every one of them had a first workout. They were beginners. They were nervous. The difference isn’t that they were naturally fit; it’s that they kept showing up. The strongest person in the gym was once the person wondering if they belonged.

You’re not starting from zero
If you’re raising a family, working full-time, caring for aging parents or running a business, you’ve already proven you can do hard things. Getting healthier isn’t about becoming someone else. It’s about investing some of that same determination in yourself.
What your first 12 weeks can look like
| Stage | What you’ll do | What you’ll likely notice |
|---|---|---|
| Weeks 1–2 | Assessment, learn the basic movements, 2–3 short sessions a week | Some soreness, a sense of accomplishment |
| Weeks 3–6 | Add a little weight or reps, daily walks | Better sleep, easier stairs, more energy |
| Weeks 7–12 | Progress your program, refine nutrition | Clothes fitting better, real strength gains |
Coach’s tip: Your only job in week one is to show up. Don’t change everything at once; we’ll add habits as you’re ready.
We don’t expect you to keep up
Many people fear walking into a group workout and feeling miles behind. At CT Workout, every member follows an individualized program designed for their goals, fitness level and any injuries or limitations. You won’t be expected to lift what someone else lifts or move as fast as someone else. The only comparison that matters is where you are today versus a few months from now.

We meet you exactly where you are
Many members begin with:
- 30, 50 or even 100 pounds to lose
- Knee pain, back pain or arthritis
- Prediabetes or high blood pressure
- Low energy
- Years without exercising
Those aren’t reasons to avoid the gym. They’re reasons to find a program that works with your body, not against it. Coaches adjust every workout so you build strength safely and gain confidence every week.
Safety note: If you have heart disease, uncontrolled blood pressure, diabetes or another medical condition, check with your doctor before starting a new exercise program.
Small wins lead to big changes
Those small victories compound into life-changing results.
Confidence isn’t a requirement
Many people think confidence comes first. It doesn’t. Confidence is earned, one workout, one healthy meal and one promise kept to yourself at a time. The person you’re hoping to become is created by the decisions you make today, not by waiting until you feel ready.
“I walked in as someone that could not get up off the floor without help… at 62… Along with the strength training has come improved stamina, balance, and much less back pain.”

Starting out of shape FAQ
How do I start working out when I’m really out of shape?
Start with two or three short, coached strength sessions a week plus daily walking. Use easier versions of exercises and progress gradually.
Will I be the most out-of-shape person there?
It doesn’t matter. Everyone follows their own program, and many members started exactly where you are.
How soon will I feel a difference?
Many people notice better sleep and energy within a few weeks, and clearer changes in strength and how clothes fit within two to three months.
